Estimating Engineer BCW Engineering

We are looking for a Estimating Engineer Do you have the skills and experience we need? The Estimating Engineer will process inbound RFQ data and create accurate cost estimates for CNC biased machining projects, ensuring profitability and competitive bidding. The role requires experience and knowledge in both turning and milling. Utilising CAD Cam to generate tool paths and fixture designs/ concepts to propose a manufacturing method. Material requirements will need to be determined for the method and fed into Procurement for sourcing. The ideal candidate must be comfortable with low, medium and high-volume production methods to ensure the right concept is proposed, they will also be required to support ongoing process improvement when enquiries are complete. They will work with the CNC Engineering Manager to support the wider team on a working list of processes that require revisit or overhaul.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Estimate Costs: Prepare detailed cost estimates for CNC machining projects, including material, labour, and machine time.
  • Interpret Technical Drawings: Analyse drawings/CAD and specifications to understand customer requirements and project parameters.
  • Calculate Machining Times: Accurately determine the time required for various CNC machining operations on different machine types.
  • Provide Guidance: Offer expert advice on project feasibility and best practices.
  • Bid Preparation: Prepare and submit competitive bids for projects, ensuring profitability and winning contracts.
  • Cost Monitoring: Provide cost estimates for all project related needs such as; machines, ancillaries, work holding and tooling for example.
  • Problem Solving: Identify and resolve any technical or cost-related issues that are presented as part of new or existing enquiries.
  • Software Proficiency: Utilize CNC CAM software and other relevant software for estimating and production planning.
  • Skills and Qualifications: CNC Machining Experience: A background in CNC machining is essential, often gained through hands-on experience as a machinist or engineer.
  • Technical Skills: Strong understanding of CNC machining processes, materials, and tools.
  • Blueprint Reading: Ability to accurately interpret technical drawings and specifications for equipment and machinery.

Skills and Attributes:

  • Mathematical Skills: Proficiency in calculations related to materials, dimensions, and machining times.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills for interacting with customers and colleagues.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to analyse complex situations and find effective solutions.
  • Software Proficiency: Familiarity with CNC CAM software and other relevant software packages.
  • Organizational Skills: Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
  • Analytical Thinking: Ability to analyse data, identify trends, and make informed decisions

Qualifications and Experience Levels:

  • Education and Training: While a degree in engineering or a related field may be beneficial, many estimators gain their knowledge and skills through experience as CNC machinists or engineers.
  • Design experience, be that work holding, tooling, robotics or assembly.
  • Inspection methods and experience in how to validate product they have made using a variety of equipment.
  • Would benefit from experience with robotics but not essential.

Working 39 hours over a 5 day week

Monday - Thursday 7.45am - 5pm & Friday 7.45am - 1pm

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: £35,000.00-£45,000.00 per year
