Assembly Fitter

BCW Design & Manufacture is seeking an experienced Assembly Fitter.
The role involves working on high-mix, low-volume work pieces, including metallic billets, small to large fabrications, and general assemblies for the aerospace, marine, and defence industries.
To carry out the mechanical fitting and assembly of components and systems in accordance with technical drawings, work instructions, and company standards, ensuring quality, safety, and efficiency throughout the process.
Specific Responsibilities
- Assemble mechanical parts and sub-assemblies using hand tools, power tools, and machinery.
- Interpret and work from engineering drawings, build plans, and schematics.
- Conduct alignment, torque tightening, and functional testing of assemblies.
- Carry out rework and modifications as required.
- Maintain accurate records of work carried out, including timesheets and quality checks.
- Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) and comply with health and safety regulations.
- Identify and report non-conformances and assist in root cause analysis.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and contribute to 5S/lean practices.
- Collaborate with other departments such as Quality, Design, and Engineering as needed.
Key Skills & Competencies
- Proven experience as a mechanical fitter or in an assembly role within an engineering environment.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
- Strong understanding of mechanical principles and fitting techniques.
- Competent with hand and power tools.
- Experience with pneumatic and hydraulic systems is desirable.
- Familiarity with health and safety standards in a manufacturing setting.
- Good attention to detail and problem-solving ability.
- Team player with effective communication skills.
Qualifications
- NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering / Fitting / Manufacturing.
- Apprenticeship in mechanical fitting or similar (preferred but not essential).
- Relevant safety certifications (e.g., Manual Handling, COSHH, Working at Height) are an advantage.

The position is permanent, working 39 hours per week, as this is a nights position, the hourly rate will have a shift allowance uplift
Nights 4.30pm - 2.45am Monday to Thursday
